Lake Shikaribetsu

The region is very fortunate to have some very scenic areas. These include Lake Shikaribetsu in the mountains north of the town and the Kanno Onsen area (hot springs) not far away.

Some beautiful natural outdoor hot springs can be experienced by those visiting the area if they are willing to go off the beaten path.

Nakiusagi

Do you know Nakiusagi? This little animal is called 'survivor in glacier period' because it remained in a high mountain area after a glacier disappeared and crossed the continent to Hokkaido 3-40,000 years ago. It is a very precious animal and inhabits only Hokkaido in Japan. This little Hokkaido resident especially enjoys living near Lake Shikaribetsu.
